Aviation Safety & Security
American Airlines flight attendant Kellie Melinda Williams, 31, was found dead after her body washed ashore near Hollywood Beach, Fla., in what investigators believe was a fatal vessel strike. Authorities said Williams had apparently been snorkeling or diving near Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park when she was struck by a boat, suffering blunt force injuries. Two fishermen discovered her body in the surf on June 3 and alerted authorities. Williams, a California native who had recently moved to South Florida and married within the last year, worked as a flight attendant for the airline. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Hollywood Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident and are seeking information from the public regarding the vessel involved. American Airlines said it was “deeply saddened” by the loss of its colleague and extended condolences to her family, friends, and coworkers.

A former Air Canada captain has been charged in what Canadian authorities describe as a long-running fraud scheme after allegedly operating more than 900 domestic and international flights between 2009 and 2025 without holding the required Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). Investigators allege the pilot used fraudulent licensing documents to conceal the deficiency while serving as captain on some of the carrier’s largest aircraft. Air Canada said the individual held a valid commercial pilot licence and successfully completed all recurrent training and proficiency checks, stressing that passenger safety was not compromised. The issue was uncovered during a documentation review in 2025, leading the airline to remove the pilot from duty, report the matter to Transport Canada, and conduct an audit of its pilot group that found no other licensing irregularities. Authorities allege the pilot earned approximately C$2.9 million (US$2.1 million) while serving as a captain and now faces multiple fraud-related charges.

Aviation Industry News
The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released U.S. airlines’ April 2026 fuel cost and consumption figures, showing total fuel expenditures of $6.47 billion, up 26.2 percent from March 2026 ($5.12 billion) and up 78.0 percent from April 2025 ($3.63 billion). U.S. scheduled airlines consumed 1.573 billion gallons of fuel during the month, down 2.6 percent from March 2026 (1.615 billion gallons) and down 0.2 percent from April 2025 (1.575 billion gallons). The average cost per gallon reached $4.11 in April 2026, an increase of 94 cents, or 29.6 percent, from March 2026 ($3.17), and up 181 cents, or 78.2 percent, from April 2025 ($2.31).

Boeing April Deliveries
Boeing delivered 47 commercial aircraft in April 2026, bringing its year-to-date total to 190 aircraft and continuing the manufacturer’s recovery from its recent production and quality challenges. The month’s deliveries were led by 34 737 MAX aircraft, supplemented by six 787 Dreamliners, four 767s, and three 777-family aircraft. While the total was only one aircraft higher than March’s 46 deliveries, it represented a solid performance as Boeing worked to increase output and clear previously delayed aircraft. The company also recorded a strong order month, booking 135 net new aircraft orders, including 57 737 MAXs, 51 787s, and 28 777Xs. Despite trailing Airbus’ 67 April deliveries, Boeing remained narrowly ahead in year-to-date deliveries at the end of the month, with investors closely watching the company’s ability to continue ramping up 737 MAX production and meet its full-year delivery targets.

Finnair (AY) carried 1.09 million passengers in May 2026, an increase of 7.4 percent year-over-year, as demand continued to rebound following operational disruptions caused by labor actions in 2025. Growth was led by Asian routes, while European traffic also posted solid gains. Revenue passenger kilometers increased 6.2 percent and load factor improved by 5.1 percentage points to 77.6 percent, supported by strong demand and reduced industry capacity linked to ongoing Middle East conflicts. Despite largely unchanged overall capacity, the carrier benefited from new European routes and stronger aircraft utilization, resulting in a 17.7 percent increase in revenue per available seat kilometer. Finnair also reported improved cargo performance, with cargo volumes rising 4.3 percent, while operational reliability strengthened as 82.8 percent of flights arrived on schedule, up from 80.6 percent a year earlier. Middle East services remain suspended because of regional security concerns.
Azorra Expands Embraer E195-E2 Commitment
Aircraft lessor Azorra has placed an additional firm order for 15 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, increasing its total firm orderbook for the type from 39 to 54 jets and pushing Embraer’s E2 family beyond 500 total orders. The latest agreement also includes purchase rights for 15 additional aircraft. Azorra, one of the E2 program’s largest leasing customers, said the order reflects continued demand from airlines seeking fuel-efficient, right-sized narrowbody aircraft that can profitably serve thinner routes. The deal further strengthens Embraer’s position in the regional and small narrowbody market as carriers continue to seek alternatives to larger Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
