New and Proposed Routes
Alaska Airlines (AS) will launch 4x daily service between Los Angeles (LAX) and San Jose, Calif. (SJC), on November 1, 2026. The route will be operated with mainline aircraft.
Porter Airlines (PD) will add four international routes from London, Ontario (YXU), during the winter 2026-27 season. The carrier will launch 4x weekly service to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (FLL), on November 18 and 2x weekly flights to Orlando (MCO) on November 19, increasing the latter to 3x weekly from December 17. Porter will also begin 4x weekly service to Cancun (CUN) on December 17 and 2x weekly flights to Montego Bay (MBJ) on December 18. All four routes will operate with the Embraer E195-E2.
Dropped and Suspended Routes
Delta Air Lines (DL) will end seasonal service between Boston (BOS) and Honolulu (HNL) in early January 2027. The carrier has also removed Las Vegas-San Diego, Calif. (SAN), service from its November and December 2026 schedules.
Air Canada (AC) will suspend Austin, Texas (AUS)-Montreal Trudeau (YUL) service during September and most of October 2026. The carrier will also end Charleston, S.C. (CHS)-Toronto Pearson (YYZ) service around Labor Day, Raleigh-Durham, N.C. (RDU)-Vancouver (YVR) flights in late July and Sacramento, Calif. (SMF)-Toronto service on August 1.

THE “GOLDEN AGE” OF TRAVEL IS DRY: As of Tuesday, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is ending a decades-long policy exemption by requiring flight attendants to collect all carrier-provided pre-departure beverages and service items before an aircraft pushes back from the gate. While 14 CFR § 121.577 has technically prohibited loose airline-furnished food and drink during ground movement since 1992, legacy FAA guidance long permitted passengers to hold onto disposable paper and plastic cups through pushback and taxiing. Under updated regulatory clarification, that leniency is gone: every airline-poured cup, glass, and trash item must be fully retrieved and stowed before surface movement begins. Major U.S. carriers, including Delta and United, are instructing crews to initiate pre-flight service earlier during boarding to comply. However, with tight turnaround windows and rushed departures, the stricter timeline means premium-cabin passengers will likely see pre-departure beverage service skipped far more often when time runs short.

A 52-year-old Miami man was arrested after allegedly telling an American Airlines (AA) employee that he had a grenade while checking in at Miami. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Osniel Blanco-Lopez made the statement in Spanish and laughed after being asked whether his luggage contained dangerous goods, later telling deputies that he was joking. A bomb-detection dog searched his baggage but found no explosives, and Blanco-Lopez was charged with making a false report about placing a bomb.
