Aviation Safety & Security
Cologne/Bonn (CGN) has become the first major airport in Germany to fully equip all passenger security lanes with computed tomography (CT) scanners following the completion of a €25 million modernization project. The new system allows passengers to leave laptops, tablets and liquids inside their carry-on bags during screening, while increasing the permitted liquid limit to two liters per container. The upgraded checkpoint features 11 CT-equipped lanes, a redesigned layout, improved lighting and acoustics, plus a dedicated “Kids Lane” for families. Airport officials expect the investment to speed passenger processing, improve the overall travel experience and strengthen Cologne Bonn’s competitive position as one of Germany’s most modern airports.
Exclusive Analysis: Flightline aggregates TSA screening data for every U.S. airport each week.
For the week ending July 11, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screeners cleared nearly 18.5 million passengers at some 430 U.S. airports. Flightline aggregated more than 55,000 individual checkpoint records into complete airport-by-airport totals, creating a dataset not published elsewhere.
Airport passenger totals are compiled from publicly released TSA checkpoint screening reports. Flightline aggregates and validates the underlying checkpoint data exactly as published by the TSA. Because the source reports may occasionally contain delayed submissions, omitted checkpoints, or subsequent revisions, airport-level totals should be considered the best available public reports rather than a final, official airport passenger count.
Here were the five busiest airports last week for screened passengers. Paid subscribers receive the full dataset.

Aviation Industry News
Boeing is investing $1 billion to establish a fourth 737 MAX final assembly line at its Everett, Washington, facility, a move designed to expand production capacity and help reduce its backlog of more than 4,300 unfilled aircraft orders. The new “North Line” will complement the existing Renton production lines as Boeing works toward increasing 737 MAX output to 52 aircraft per month. Wings will continue to be built in Renton before final assembly in Everett, where each aircraft will spend about 10 days undergoing systems installation, cabin outfitting, and final inspections. The investment also adds manufacturing flexibility and resilience as Boeing ramps up production to meet sustained global demand for its best-selling narrow-body family.
Frontier Airlines and fellow Indigo Partners-backed carriers Wizz Air (W6), Volaris (Y4), JetSMART (JA) and Cebu Pacific (5J) will equip more than 1,000 aircraft with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet under one of the industry’s largest inflight connectivity commitments. Frontier plans to begin installing Starlink across its fleet in early 2027, becoming the first U.S. ultra-low-cost carrier to adopt the service, while the system will also provide gate-to-gate connectivity for flight crews and operational teams. The announcement is the latest in a growing wave of airlines selecting Starlink, joining an expanding list of global carriers that have turned to the low-Earth orbit satellite network to offer faster, lower-latency inflight Wi-Fi and enhance the passenger experience.
Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines completed 99.37 percent of their scheduled flights during the busy July 2-6 holiday travel period, the highest completion rate among U.S. carriers. Alaska also operated an entire day on July 2 without a single cancellation. The five-day stretch included three of the 10 busiest operating days in the airline’s history, with July 2, July 5 and July 6 all ranking among its all-time highest-volume days.
