Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads

Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:

After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.

The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.

“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”

Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.

Aviation Safety & Security

The familiar blue U.S. passport is getting a new look in 2028, with American history illustrations, a larger gold seal on the cover and an eagle that appears to fly as you flip through the pages.

The “Flight of the Eagle” design will come in one 38-page version, replacing today’s 26-page and 50-page options, which could mean more frequent renewals for travelers who fill their passports with stamps and visas; first-time applicants are also expected to get a fully online application option in 2027.

And yes, images from Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s presentation sparked speculation about President Donald Trump’s portrait appearing inside, though the department has not confirmed it will be part of the standard 2028 passport.

DID YOU KNOW? There were 183,170,240 valid U.S. passports in circulation in 2025, compared with an estimated year-end population of 342.3 million, putting the passport count at about 53.5 percent of the population

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is removing chairs from airport ID-checking podiums nationwide, saying officers will be more alert and give travelers a more welcoming checkpoint experience while standing; the American Federation of Government Employees says it heard about the change from members rather than the agency and argues that those chairs offer some relief to officers who already spend much of their shifts on hard floors; the article questions what the change actually does for security or service, pointing to government research that links prolonged standing to fatigue and discomfort and recommends letting workers alternate between sitting and standing.

Aviation Industry News

Elon Musk took Delta Air Lines’ decision to pass on Starlink personally, saying CEO Ed Bastian “will lose his job over this.” His comments followed unverified accounts that Bastian told employees Delta did not want to work with Musk. Aviation insider JonNYC shared the alleged remarks but cautioned that the exact wording had not been verified. Musk also mocked Delta’s onboard Wi-Fi and predicted customers would leave. Delta plans to begin installing Amazon Leo connectivity on 500 aircraft in 2028. EDITOR’S NOTE: Predicting Bastian will lose his job because Delta chose another supplier is petty. Musk’s claim gives us no reason to believe the CEO’s job is actually at risk.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines took delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 in Toulouse on October 2, 2026, as it renews its long-haul fleet. The aircraft will fly from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to destinations including Toronto Pearson (YYZ). It seats 331 passengers, with 34 business-class suites, 26 Premium Comfort seats and 271 economy seats.

Air Cargo

Ethiopian Airlines (ET) signed a firm order on September 30 for ten Boeing freighters: eight 777-8Fs and two current-generation 777Fs, plus purchase rights for another eight 777-8Fs. According to Airways, the two 777Fs will arrive in 2027 and 2028, with the 777-8Fs due between 2033 and 2035. CEO Mesfin Tasew put the ten aircraft’s catalog value at about $5 billion, though the negotiated price remains confidential. Ethiopian also plans to acquire four passenger-to-freighter converted 777s separately. The order makes it the first African carrier to purchase the 777-8F as it expands its global cargo network.
